Information About Charles:


Personal Description:

I'm a university lecturer with degrees from Oxford and Leeds, whose work crosses between English and History.

I offer high-quality one-to-one tutoring for GCSE and A-level English Language, English Literature, History, and Latin.

My tutoring will help you move up the grades by focusing on your exam technique, to get you where you want to be. I have a thorough knowledge of AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and WJEC's mark schemes and requirements, and will work directly towards them.

I also offer guidance on university application.

I offer the following:

Private tuition in English Literature at GCSE, A-level, and upwards.

Private tuition in History at GCSE, A-level, and upwards.

Latin tuition at for GCSE, A-level, and upwards.

University application guidance for English, History, or Classics.



Teaching Experience:

Alongside my tutoring experience, I have five years of experience teaching English literature, history, and Latin at university level, and have previously worked as a teaching assistant at a state secondary school. I have a wide range of experience, teaching material from Shakespearean England to good academic writing.

My students have consistently attained high results, and their feedback has included 'it was very supportive' and 'it really has made such a difference'.



Tutoring Approach:

Sessions will follow a schedule which suits you, supporting your regular lessons. We'll pay close attention to your written work, helping you target the assessment criteria so that you can get the marks you need.

I carry out tutoring online, and can also work in person in York.
