Information About Sergejs:

Personal Description:

I am a friendly and approachable person with a computer-aided mechanical engineering BSc (Hons) degree, a PhD in research and development (mechanical engineering) and design engineer work experience.

I also like to watch space documentaries, develop music in Fruity Loops and sometimes record myself singing. For the past ten years, I consider this my favourite hobby and I want to say thanks to all my regular listeners - neighbours, my two cats (Gru and Naruto) and my partner for all the patience and "kind" support.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a tutor and demonstrator during my PhD at Edinburgh University. I remember enjoying it because students were always asking interesting questions about the laboratory equipment, set-ups, tools and the experiments themselves. Since I recently graduated myself and I was familiar with that feeling of being exposed to a new environment with lots of novel knowledge, I knew how to share it properly with students by being very approachable and easy to talk with. I was always trying to explain experiment procedures in very easy language so students were not overwhelmed by new scientific vocabulary.

In addition to my tutoring and demonstration skills, I have experience working in customer support. I was trained in how to deal with different customers and have obtained soft skills during my training. That customer support job also implied technical support to the clients who ofter were below 18 years old due to the nature of the industry I worked in (gaming industry). I remember never having any issues with remote assistance to clients as I was always a very calm and attentive listener and assistor.

Tutoring Approach:

I listen well when a student is asking questions and I do not give straight answers. I always try to encourage students to come up with a solution themselves because I believe that this is the best way of learning. There is a necessity to make sure that the student has some level of interest in the subject and I can always provide examples of why this subject can be fun to learn. Normally, I would first find a common language with a student to create a nice working atmosphere. I always come prepared and I am confident that I am a very good teacher.
