Information About Oliver:

Personal Description:

Hi, my name is Ollie. I am a 4th-year Engineering student at Oxford University. Although I am English, I did my GCSEs and A-levels in Singapore where I achieved 11 A*s at GSCE and 3A* in A-level in Maths, Further Maths and Physics. I also did Film Studies A-level where I achieved an A. Continuing my studies at university, I am still up to date with any level of maths and physics. I am passionate about teaching and helping others understand the different core concepts of maths and physics. In my Further Maths and Physics A-levels, I achieved the highest result in the country.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for 4 years now, mainly helping students doing their GCSEs, A-levels and International Baccalaureate. I have helped students go from a basic understanding of their subject to achieving top grades. In recent months, after adapting to online teaching, I have helped a student pass their OMPT maths qualification, helping them get into their top choice university in the Netherlands.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to have a very open approach to tutoring in order to find out which teaching methods best suit the pupil. I understand that maths and physics can be a very abstract subject at times and therefore, I always attempt to find ways that the student will be able to understand what I am teaching them and be able to maximise their progress.

My main format of tutoring is to go through the core concepts for a specific topic with the pupil first, making sure that at each stage the student understands how and why the maths or physics works. After that, I tend run through a few practise questions, clearly laying out each step. Once the student has gained an understanding of how to layout an answer to the question, I will get them to go through a few questions themselves and help them a long the way if they are struggling. Once we both feel as if there is a sufficient understanding on that specific topic or sub-topic we will move on. At the end of every lesson and the start of subsequent lessons, I like to consolidate their knowledge on what we have covered to make sure a full, well rounded grasp of the topic has been achieved.

If the pupil wants extra questions to have a go at after the class, I am happy to provide them with that. They can then send these back to me before the class for us to have a go through at the start of the next class.
