Personal Description:
I am a dedicated, experienced and hard-working educator. Formerly a teacher of English language and literature at GCSE level and of literature at A level with strong experience of working within a close school community on the pastoral side in a number of teaching and leadership roles; communicating effectively with colleagues, students and parents whilst valuing and promoting the ethos of the school. Most recently I have been Director of Studies across two sites (UK and Portugal) of a busy and unpredictable tutorial college where fast thinking and flexibility are the watchwords.
Teaching Experience:
I spent 27 years teaching English Language and Literature to 13 - 18 year olds at Bryanston School in Dorset. In the past three years I have worked as Director of Studies at Greene's Tutorial College in Oxford where I have provided tuition, academic oversight and guidance one to one for students aged 14 - 25.
Tutoring Approach:
I am very collaborative. I believe that it is important for the student to take a full part in their learning and not to be passive, For that reason I prefer a discursive approach to tutoring rather than 'lecturing'.
