Katie - Loughborough tutor

Information About Katie:

Personal Description:

I completed my PhD in Medicine at the University of Nottingham where I researched the application of novel electron microscopy techniques to study biological mechanisms in prostate cancer metastasis. I am able to cover a range of subjects at different levels with a stronger focus on the sciences (Biology/Chemistry). I am friendly and approachable and enjoy working with students having worked as a tutor for 2+ years during my time at university.

Teaching Experience:

During my studies, I was employed by my university as a professional tutor (2+ years) to provide academic assistance with all elements of the undergraduate Biomedical Sciences course. My role involved helping undergraduate students to improve quality of written coursework and prepare for exams in modules such as Biochemistry and Genetics by teaching effective study skills in addition to subject specific knowledge. I am also experienced in tutoring students working toward their GCSEs and A levels and I am familiar with the AQA and OCR exam board syllabus.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to help tutees to gain more confidence in their abilities to be able to excel in their studies and make the higher grades more attainable and achievable. In my approach to tutoring, I work with tutees to help them develop key skills that they can use throughout their education such as critical thinking, problem solving, effective study skills and exam technique and preparation.
