Information About John:

Personal Description:

After obtaining a First Class (Hons) Degree in Mathematics, I have since taught the subject for over twenty six years, and feel that both my experience and knowledge will benefit any student who is perhaps struggling a little with the subject.

I have taught KS3, GCSE, AS and A2 Maths throughout my career, and I have also successfully mentored numerous students who have gone on to Higher Education.

I shall be able to email the student all the questions, solutions and notes that we do in each session, and I am also able to respond to any subsequent queries and emails throughout the week, all for free!

Teaching Experience:

I have enjoyed teaching KS3, GCSE and A-Level Maths in various Grammar and Secondary schools throughout the UK for over twenty-six years. My most recent post was at the Integrated College Dungannon, where I taught for almost seventeen years.

I worked at the Norton Knatchbull School in Ashford, Kent from 1994 until 2000. I also spent two years at Eastbrook Comprehensive in Dagenham, Essex from 2000 until 2002. I then worked at the following schools in Northern Ireland for one year each - Cookstown High School, Craigavon Senior High School and City of Armagh High School.

I have also taught hundreds of online lessons. All my lessons, as well as countless past papers, are on 'ActivInspire' and I use this medium in order to deliver the work via 'Zoom'. I possess an extensive knowledge of the CCEA and Pearson specifications, having taught both at GCSE and A-Level.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to introduce a new topic by completing several worked examples first, along with some past paper questions, and then I'll go through the exam mark scheme in order to emphasise the key points.

Of course, the best way to learn Maths is by doing questions, so I'll try to offer important advice and guidance along the way.

I will also take the time to revisit the areas that are causing any difficulty, thus clearing the way for the more challenging concepts to be understood. This one to one time is very important in helping to bring the student up to the level that they require.
