Personal Description:
Hi I am Ollie, a twenty-year-old student from Leicestershire and currently living in Madrid. I am particularly strong in English and the humanities. I am particularly interested in music, traveling and finance. I can tutor comfortably up to GCSE level in essay based subjects, English literature and English language. My academic background is as follows: 11 GCSEs, 2 A-levels, a Pre-U and currently holding a GPA of 9.1/10 at IE University (Politics, Philosophy, Law and Economics).
Teaching Experience:
I worked volunteer every Friday afternoon for the two years of my sixth-form at a local primary school. I helped the reception and year-one class in particular with reading lessons and physical education. I have also run taster sessions for youngsters to try different musical instruments.
I worked for two months as an English Teaching Assistant at a senior school in Hong Kong.
Tutoring Approach:
My focus first and foremost is to try to understand the subject holistically and totally. I think trying to engage with the subject and understand it as a whole is often a better approach than getting confused and stuck with the intimate. For an example I give the following example of how I would approach a poem: I would focus first and foremost on understanding the shape and the meaning of the poem before delving into any sort of detail. I think it is important that students have a rigid understanding of the whole, particularly when considering poetry and literature, as it can become easy to get lost.
I am very conversational and laid back, but think that the amount of experience I have had with young people suits me to keep them engaged.
