Personal Description:
I am a third year student at the University of Cambridge, studying French and Italian.
Teaching Experience:
I was involved in a scheme giving extra lessons to primary school children whilst at I was at secondary school.
Tutoring Approach:
Identifying areas of confusion or where more practice is needed, particular to the individual, and work on those areas.
Building confidence across areas of a particular subject through tutoring (involving going over exercises, one-to-one explanations, being guided in tackling problems on their own etc) helps students when dealing with the matter outside of the tutoring environment and allows them to become more independent within the subject.
I think when teaching English as a foreign language it is important to focus on both conversation and writing because conversation skills will help the student in all other aspects of using the language (reading, writing, listening) and because written English can be a difficult skill (but key to being able to function academically, professionally and personally in the language).
