Information About Monika:

Personal Description:

Hi! My name is Monika, and I am a teacher of Polish as a foreign language, working with both adults and children.

I hold a Master's degree in Translation Studies from UCL, as well as relevant qualifications and extensive experience teaching Polish as a foreign language to students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and with different levels of proficiency.

I prepare children and young people for the GCSE and A-level Polish exams, as well as adults preparing for the Polish state B1 exam.

Additionally, I have experience working as an examiner for A-level Polish, including both Paper 1 and Paper 2.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience teaching both young people and adults. My teaching experience includes working at various institutions, including a Polish school in Leuven, Belgium, where I taught adults of Polish descent.

For several years, I taught children and young people at a school in Amersham, preparing them for their GCSE and A-level Polish exams. I also taught at a school in Ilford for one year. Additionally, I worked with 7-year-old students at the Polish Social School in Ely, near Cambridge, as well as with learners for whom Polish is a second language.

I am currently based in Poland as part of my professional development, where I teach Polish as a foreign language to adults at the University of Gdańsk and Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz.

In addition, I regularly teach Polish online to Polish-British children and young people who are preparing for their GCSE and A-level Polish exams.

Tutoring Approach:

In my approach to GCSE exam preparation, I primarily rely on the textbook "Lekcje z Polskiego" authored by Makis Kozinska and Janusz Kulczycki. For adults interested in learning the Polish language, I utilize the textbook "Polish Step By Step" published by The Publishing House Glossa. My teaching philosophy emphasizes the significance of effective communication when acquiring a foreign language, and I therefore instruct students in contemporary Polish language usage.

To keep the lessons engaging and varied, I incorporate diverse materials from the internet, newspapers, and magazines. Leveraging my expertise as a professional translator, I encourage students to undertake translation exercises encompassing both literary and general texts.

For A-Level exam preparation, I exclusively focus on the following literary works: "Popiół i Diament" by Jerzy Andrzejewski, "Tango" by Sławomir Mrożek, "Katyń" by Andrzej Wajda, and "Przypadek" by Krzysztof Kieślowski. In terms of project preparation, I specialize in topics related to tourism, communism, and the resistance movement.
