Sara - Alcester tutor

Information About Sara:

Personal Description:

Having lived in France for over 20 years, and with many years of experience in education, training and individual tutoring, I am now happily retired from the world of work, with the time and energy to pass on my passion for languages to those who are looking for direction, motivation or success in their learning of French. I am married and have two adult children, both of whom were brought up and educated in France. They now benefit, like me, from being bilingual and share my belief in the importance of language learning, not only as an enhancement in life skills but also for the joy of communicating with and understanding another people and their culture.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in education and training for over 40 years. Initially a secondary school French teacher, I later moved to France where I taught English at all levels of school and University, as well as training adults from a variety of professional backgrounds to speak English. I also ran an education centre in France, where English school children could learn to experience real France and communicate in the language. Since returning to the UK, I have tutored several young people through Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level, as well as having one-to-one sessions with adult learners, wishing to improve their conversational French for travel or professional purposes. I have also taught English as a Foreign Language to learners of different nationalities and levels. Recently, there has been a lot more demand for online tuition, which I have done through a combination of video/telephone/email communication.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should be enjoyable so I always assess and discuss the level/approach/needs of the tutee before starting the learning process. This ensures that we don't work above or below their capability and that they want to come back for more. I understand the difficulties of the language and have always been told that I explain in a very easy to understand way, and ensure that there are plenty of opportunities for questions and practice. Tutoring needs to satisfy a need, whether this is simply to promote enjoyment of learning a language or to ensure success in an exam. Whatever the requirements of the tutee, I am more than happy to help.
