Personal Description:
I am a qualified primary teacher with experience teaching and tutoring pupils from year 1 to year 6. Currently, I teach a mixed year 3/4 class during school hours and tutor several students in my spare time.
Although I specialise in Maths, I have strong knowledge of the curriculum so I am able to confidently teach a broad range of subjects and areas.
This can include: English (writing, reading, spelling, grammar), Maths, Science.
Teaching Experience:
After undertaking extensive volunteering as a PE teacher and finishing my degree in PE, I started to move towards a career in Primary Education. Since then, I have completed my teacher training year, spent time as a classroom teacher and worked across the county as a supply teacher.
Most of my teaching has been delivered to children in year 6. However, I have taught and tutored children in a range of year groups. As I have worked with classes before that have undertaken SATS, I am familiar with the preparation that is necessary to succeed.
For the past year, I have been providing tutoring services on an almost weekly basis. This has included sessions in maths, English (writing) and reading (phonics and comprehension).
Tutoring Approach:
My approach starts with a conversation about the desired outcomes, interests of the children and suitable goals for them to achieve. As the sessions continue, we can discuss and tailor future sessions to adapt to the children's changing needs. Whether this is to improve confidence in particular areas or simply reinforce and extend understanding of topics.
Until recently, I worked at a teacher training school. Therefore, I have very current and up to date training which I ensure is used to produce engaging sessions that are valuable and helpful. For example, when teaching maths, I focus highly on the use of concrete resources to help consolidate learning and understanding of topics and ideas. I then enforce this understanding through fun activities such as computer based games.
Most importantly, I try to gain an understanding of the children's interest and learning styles as soon as possible. I use this knowledge to ensure they find their learning interesting and are as productive as possible.
