Emilien - Leeds tutor
Information About Emilien:
Personal Description:
My name is Emilien and I am a French native speaker currently studying Chinese and Japanese at the University of Leeds. I obtained a perfect score (equivalent to three A*) for my French baccalaureate, including full marks in French Literature, German, Intensive German, English and English literature. In addition to French, I speak both German and English to a fluent level. I took part in different exchange programs between France and Germany, which enabled me to live in Hamburg and Hannover for extended periods of time in immersion in a German speaking environment. I also successfully sat the German C1 examination TestDaF and obtained the maximum score in all 4 skills assessed. I also obtained my C1 level in English (IELTS Academic) and have been living in the UK for over two years now. In addition to these languages, I speak Italian, Russian and Chinese to an intermediate level, enabling me to tailor my tutoring methods to various students coming from all over the world.
I am currently teaching French, German and English to any student eager to improve their language skills (GCSE and A-Level preparation, standard lessons, conversational lessons, etc.). I can also help in the preparation of foreign language examinations such as DELF or DALF in French, IELTS or TOEFL in English and TestDaF or Goethe Institut Prüfungen in German.
I also have obtained my 3ème cycle piano with distinctions, certifying that I have a piano level close to semi-professional and am able to tutor beginner and intermediate piano players.
I am very flexible when it comes to my tutees needs or wishes, so do not hesitate to contact me so we can work out what the best teaching mode is for you!
Teaching Experience:
I have now been tutoring for over 5 years student in both French, German and English from all over the world.
In French, I have successfully prepared students for their GCSE, A-Level and DALF C1 examinations. These students were not only British but also German, Russian and Chinese, showcasing my ability to adapt to a wide range of pupils. In addition to this, I also provided weekly lessons to students of different levels, enabling them to make substantial progress and develop their grammatical accuracy.
In German, I have tutored both French and English students for their respective German Baccalaureate and A-Level as well as helped foreign students to prepare for their C1 language examination (TestDaF, TELC, Goethe Institut), enabling them to be full-time students at prestigious German universities. Just like in French, I have also tutored students simply eager to improve their German level in weekly sessions.
Finally, in English, I have successfully helped foreign students to prepare for the IELTS Academic and TOELF, enabling to attend university in the UK. I have also been tutoring French students for their Baccalauréat and classes prépa, working on their specific needs.
These years of tutoring were highly beneficial in that they enable me to quickly identify the student's needs and to tailor my approach to them. Feedback from students also contributed to making my lessons more engaging and fun. This is especially the case in terms of online tutoring, which I am used to delivering.
Tutoring Approach:
When tutoring, my main goal is to tailor my teaching to your needs and goals. As a result, my first lesson is always dedicated to discussing your language learning history, your motivations and your goals for our sessions together.
In terms of teaching, I always use a wide range of textbooks that I complete with material put out by native speakers. This includes videos, recordings, films, etc. Each lesson deals with a specific theme and, at the end of the lesson, my students will be able to hold their own in written and oral activities. Though this is a vital part of learning any language, I make grammar fun and approchable as opposed to confusing and abstract.
If your goal is to prepare a specific test, we will start by an in-depth assessment of your level before developing together a strategy that works for you and focusing on what you need to improve.
