Caroline - Putney tutor
Information About Caroline:
Personal Description:
I love to learn and I love to teach! Teaching has been my career for 22 years - I teach piano and clarinet as well as subjects in the classroom. I also love Music and Dance, and often use rhythms, melodies and movement to good effect when it aids the learning. I am currently a part-time tutor, part-time classroom teacher. I run the Eco Voice group which has eco representatives in each year group from Years 4-13 who work with parent representatives on our Green Flag School action plan. I very much enjoy running a Gardening Club for parents and a Green Grub club for children which uses fresh produce from the garden!
Teaching Experience:
I am a qualified and experienced teacher of Modern Foreign Languages. I have taught French for Reception, Key Stage 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (A-level and International Baccalaureate Diploma). I teach languages in a dynamic, interactive way that uses functional grammar to speed vocabulary acquisition. French Culture and Literature form an integral part of my language teaching.
I am also qualified (Level 3 Dyslexia & Specific Learning Difficulties Practitioner Award) with extensive experience in SEN for all core subjects in primary for Key Stages 1 and 2, and for secondary English, Maths, Science and Humanities for Key Stage 3. I have experience in writing curriculum for EAL and EFL courses in primary and secondary international school settings. To make the learning accessible, fun and high achieving to all students of all abilities is my constant aim.
I am currently a part-time tutor, part-time classroom teacher. I provide support for homeschooling and exam preparation up to International Baccalaureate level. My PGCE is in French with Japanese and German at University of Warwick (1998); I have an MA (Hons) in French, Japanese and German from the University of Edinburgh (1993); I have qualifications in TESOL and CTEL with Trinity College (1987). I am trained in piano to Grade 7 and clarinet to Grade 8. I thoroughly enjoy being a member of a school orchestra and teach piano for beginners through to Grade 5.
Tutoring Approach:
I have the skill to unpack the requirements of the primary and secondary school curriculum subjects, taking the age and learning ability of the children with whom I work in to consideration as I make each segment of required learning accessible to them and enjoyable for them. I am a trained tutor in the course 'Language and Literacy in the curriculum.' To be able to communicate the language requirements of subjects to children gives them the link into showing their curriculum knowledge in clear, expected language, thus raising their attainment. I have spent twelve years delivering training to primary and secondary school teachers specifically in how to make the language of all curriculum subjects inclusive to all children. My teaching approach follows the interest and readiness of the child to learn. I strive to make the learning come from the individual, thus raising the self-esteem and self-belief that comes from an acute awareness of progress and the desire to continue building the skills for further progress.
