Amy - Bishop's Stortford tutor
Information About Amy:
Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Amy. I have worked as a primary school teacher and now a full-time tutor!
I can provide a DBS and references on request.
My Sociology undergraduate degree challenged me to think about the concept of 'success' and how we achieve it. It was this subject in particular that sparked my desire to pursue teaching. I have always been passionate about child development and would like to help children of all abilities progress and succeed in their primary years. I am motivated by setting goals and achieving them. Tutoring can provide help and support to children, which can make a massive difference in the formative years of development. To be able to monitor the progress children have made would be a rewarding role and provide me with a high level of satisfaction.
From remembering my own struggles at school, I am passionate about having a positive effect on children's' educational achievements. I hope tutoring children one to one will inspire them to confident individuals that enjoy engaging in learning and have a hunger to learn more. It is essential that as the practitioner, we inspire pupils beyond what they believe they can achieve and help them to reach their goals.
Teaching Experience:
My experience in the classroom has enabled me to make work purposeful, build positive relationships with children and act upon their interests. I strongly believe building positive relationships with individual pupils matter; children need to feel able to make mistakes without feeling judged in order for them to progress in their learning. Furthermore, I believe being: empathetic, consistent and fair is integral to being able to manage a safe and caring learning environment. I am willing to respond to the needs of individual learners as I want to provide inclusive education for all pupils whilst appreciating their bespoke needs. Personalised learning is key across the curriculum and it is of utmost importance to deliver engaging, interesting and creative sessions with a holistic approach wherever possible.
Working with key stage one throughout my PGCE placements has enabled me to have a practical understanding of effective teaching strategies. Using concrete physical manipulatives for this age range is a really beneficial aid to clarify their understanding and visualisation of new concepts. Therefore, my experience has taught me that learning can be constructed through children being active participates with their environment and others.
Tutoring Approach:
I have learned never to assume what children already know. Each child has their own individual needs; therefore, I aim to create online sessions that accommodate all pupils. My evaluations at the end of each lesson have also helped me plan for future lessons. Therefore, reflection provides an opportunity to record and consider how I could adapt my teaching methods as appropriately identified within my lessons.
