Personal Description:

I am a fully qualified English teacher in Aberdeenshire who has been teaching English in a secondary school for the last 5 years and privately tutoring for the past 3. I am a very supporting, patient and understanding tutor who is incredibly familiar with the Scottish qualifications and has hands on experience teaching them all on a daily basis, as well as training other student teachers how to do the same. I love my subject and have a real passion for literature which I try to communicate to pupils everyday. I am a very friendly and approachable person and my daily experiences of teaching in a school mean I am prepared for any obstacles to learning which may be affecting a pupil's progress.

Teaching Experience:

I obtained my degree in English Literature from The University of Aberdeen in 2013 and then continued to to completed a post graduate PGDE teaching degree in English. Following this I have been working in an Aberdeen City school and have experience teaching every certificate level for Scottish Qualifications (National 3/4/5, Higher and Advanced Higher), as well as preparing the younger years for their upcoming examinations. I also teach English Literacy as a course on a yearly basis and every year I mark the SQA English Examination papers for National 5 and Higher.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a completely personalised approach to tutoring, identifying and addressing the gaps in knowledge or underdeveloped skills pupils will need to pass their examinations an addressing them first. I also find it is important to instil a sense of passion for the texts pupils are studying as a genuine interest is important in developing the evaluation skills needed. My tutoring is tailored to the needs and requests of the individual pupil and works both independently of and in conjunction with the lessons they would be covering at school to ensure a fully comprehensive learning experience that marries well with their existing schooling (if applicable).
