Evie - Chiswick tutor
Information About Evie:
Personal Description:
I have graduated from University College London (UCL) with a Master's degree in Psychology. I obtained a First class degree in my Master's dissertation and I am currently in the process of publishing it. Ever since I graduated, I have been working in the NHS as an Assistant Clinical Psychologist in a child and adolescents mental health service. I am also able to give Psychology students tips on career options and what it's like to work within the field as I've been an Assistant Psychologist for nearly 3 years. I am hoping to get on the clinical training to become a Clinical Psychologist.
I am a friendly, patient and well-organised tutor that tutors students in Psychology, Sociology, Mathematics and English language & literature. I am also able to proofread and edit essays, lab reports, systematic reviews and dissertations. I am passionate about these subjects and have received an A* in my Psychology and Sociology exams (AS and A2). I have also obtained A *grades in GCSE English, Maths and Science.
When I'm not working, I enjoy dancing. I have been Ballroom & Latin dancing for over 10 years and it is a perfect way for me to unwind whilst also having fun. I also practice meditation and Bikram yoga, which helps me to relax and think more positively.
Teaching Experience:
I have worked with children and young adults for over 6 years. I have experience privately tutoring students from primary school to university degree level (both face-to-face and online). I quickly build rapport with my students and focus on their needs, ensuring that they achieve to the best of their potential. Additionally, I am able to proofread and edit essays and homework. My goal is to give students constructive feedback in a prompt and timely manner.
Furthermore, I have experience working with pupils with EAL (English as an Additional Language), Dyslexia, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Therefore, I offer person-centered tutoring to meet the specific needs of every student.
I also tutor privately using online platforms such as Zoom and Skype. Prior to each online session, I develop personalised resources that will greatly benefit the student both during and after each session. I offer ongoing support and can help with revision.
Tutoring Approach:
I take a student-focused approach and work with the student to discover their strengths and weaknesses. I listen carefully to what the student is currently working on and what they would like to focus on during the session. Then I create a plan of what each session should cover. I will ensure that sessions are pitched perfectly so my students can make progress straight away.
I have the ability to see the unique strengths in each of my students and I aim to build their confidence by using all learning modalities to develop these strengths. I am a patient tutor and I am dedicated to helping students to tackle challenges while also encouraging independent thought.
Teaching is a two way process so expect questions - lots of them! If any stumbling blocks have been encountered I will use a range of questioning techniques to get to the bottom of the problem. Once identified we can build the bridge and lay firm foundations on which to build.
My goals as a tutor is to increase students' grades, inspire them to be enthusiastic about learning and build their confidence. I use different learning techniques during sessions so that students can reach their full potential. I create a friendly atmosphere when I am tutoring by being non-judgmental and providing students with positive reinforcement.
At the end of each lesson, I set homework so that students can consolidate the material learnt and this is carefully tailored to the needs of each individual. I aim to give useful and constructive feedback that will benefit their grades.
