Kirsty - Glasgow tutor

Information About Kirsty:

Personal Description:

I am a recent graduate of Glasgow University, I left this institution with an upper second class degree in Film and Theatre Studies and a wealth of experience acting in student theatre. With the Citizens Young Company, I gained some experience of Theatre in Education, this involved devising plays then touring them around schools in Glasgow to perform and workshop. The workshop element of which taught me how much I enjoy teaching young people, and hearing what they have to say.

Teaching Experience:

During my time studying for my degree, I worked as an assistant teacher for Helen O'Grady Drama Academy, where I taught children aged 5-16. Most recently I worked at Aberdeen Arts Centre for one week of their summer school, where I helped to teach children, with ages ranging from 4-13, drama and creative writing.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is first to talk to my student about the subject at hand finding out what about it they are finding difficult, and what they enjoy and why. I spend more time with them on that which they find difficult, remembering to still work on that which they enjoy (albeit for less time). I continue to discuss the subject with them, making mind-maps or drawings (or whatever works best for the way they learn) alongside them as I do so. I would then finish my lessons with a brief quiz or timed mini essay to track their progress.
