Personal Description:

I am an Oxford Graduate and English teacher who has always been in love with my subject. I believe that the study of books and literature is not only an essential skill, but a great pleasure. I have taught English at all secondary levels - and for university entrance - for fifteen years and have achieved record results with many classes and individual students.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience began at Oxford University when I taught large classes of multi-national students at TEFL schools in Oxford. After graduation I went on to teach English in Italy, teaching students at Banco di Roma and Banco di Napoli and individual learners. On return from Italy I taught at Reigate Grammar School, mostly GCSE, AS and A Level, and have also worked at St Mary's, Ascot, Frances Holland and Brentwood School (amongst others). These schools are some of the best in the country- as assessed by national league tables. I last taught at Brentwood School, for 7 years, and rolled out the provision of the International Baccalaureate programme for English, achieving record results for this and at A Level.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient and committed teacher, and set extremely high standards for myself and my students. I am passionate about my subject in a way which is contagious. I believe that the most effective way to empower a student is to teach them to 'unpick' literature themselves so they can independently evaluate its effectiveness.
I believe that the study of English- both literature and language- should be a pleasure.

Qualifications:

• Masters in English Literature and Language from Oxford University: 2:1
• 15 years of teaching experience at top schools in the country
• Post graduate diploma in Magazine Journalism with Distinction
• 4 A Levels- including A Level at A grade with 100 per cent in English.
