Personal Description:

I am a friendly and enthusiastic tutor who has worked for the past four years in York as a full-time teacher of both English Language and English Literature. I have taught at both secondary and sixth form level, and have supported students with a wide range of abilities (including those with special educational requirements.) I really like to help boost students' confidence in, and enthusiasm for, my subject, whilst also doing everything possible to enable them to pass vital exams.

Teaching Experience:

After obtaining my Postgraduate Certificate in Education I became a fully qualified English teacher in York, UK.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is to be positive, supportive and constructive, carefully scaffolding learning to suit an individual student's needs. For example, we could study topics in concurrence with a student's ongoing in-school lessons to help reinforce and deepen understanding. We could also focus carefully on improving reading and writing skills, and of course we can learn how exactly to hit all of those objectives on the exam mark scheme!

When I tutor, I like to start by discussing what subject areas and skills the student would like to focus on, what their individual learning needs are, and what kind of progress they hope to make. I can then be sure to tailor tuition in the service of clear goals.

By providing one-on-one coaching, I make it possible for students to:
o Access learning that was harder to grasp in a busy classroom environment.
o Understand a wide-variety of concepts and texts in the curriculum.
o Develop stronger writing skills.
o Develop stronger reading and analysis skills.
o Develop stronger revision and study skills.
o Get better exam scores and achieve higher grades.
