Jonathan - Stratford-upon-Avon tutor
Information About Jonathan:
Personal Description:
Passionate about literature since reading the subject at Cambridge, I have been tutoring English in Stratford-upon-Avon since late 2013, having tutored extensively in London. As well as teaching one-to-one, I have also been involved in many theatre-in-education productions centred around texts set for the school curriculum, in both Shakespeare and Chaucer, which included group workshops. As I don't drive, my face-to-face lessons have to be in Stratford-Upon-Avon. However, I also give online lessons by Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime.
Teaching Experience:
Since working as a home/online tutor, I have had great success in improving students' exam results by several grades. Please note: my subjects are English GCSE, and English A-level Literature (not A-level language). I am highly familiar with AQA and EDEXCEL: please specify which board your son/daughter is taking when getting in touch.
Tutoring Approach:
Many students, particularly at A-level, feel worried by English as a subject when they realise it isn't the "soft" paper they thought it was going to be. Indeed, a set text by Shakespeare, or the ambiguities of modern poetry, can seem to many like a foreign language!
I provide lessons which are both fun as well as informative, combining the excitement which the subject deserves with a full awareness of the demands of the syllabus. Many parents have told me that their children have unexpectedly jumped to an "A" grade, when before they had "hated the subject". I can provide contact details from many Warwickshire-based parents who would be happy to vouch for my tutoring. I have also given lessons by Skype, FaceTime or Zoom for pupils who live further afield.
