Personal Description:

I have had 23 years of teaching experience and I have worked at Bradford, Wakefield and Leeds City College. I have taught students from other countries, developing English as a second language. I have also taught adults from this country, who want to increase their potential in the job market, by improving their English grammar. I have also been a teaching assistant and cover supervisor in primary and secondary schools with ages up to Key Stage 3.
In these positions I have dedicated myself to improve the situation each student is in with excellent English tuition, through written exercises, presentation skills, interactive discussions, grammar patterns, spelling techniques, sentence structure including simple, compound and complex. I have used the varied resources I have developed over the 23 years. I have always seen my work as a vocation to train and encourage students to value their study skills and see English as something they can enjoy and become engrossed in. Through the passion I have for the English Literature and Language I am able to translate this into a positive experience for each student. Many of my students have improved dramatically in a short period and this year one of my students at Leeds City College, won the Esol student of the year. I went to the awards ceremony and felt very proud.
I am qualified as an Adult Teacher and Trainer and recently went back to study my PTTLS and DTLLS. This has increased my understanding of the recent changes in education.

Teaching Experience:

I have had 23 years experience of teaching ESOL and I have worked at Bradford, Wakefield and Leeds City College. I have worked also as a teaching assistant at a local primary school for a temporary period. I worked with year 6 students. I have worked with Jobcentre clients, getting them ready for jobs with CV writing, interviews and cover letters. I have also worked with young people working towards their GCSE's and developing their key skills with English writing and grammar. I have experience of disadvantaged young people having worked with asylum seekers and refugees. I have worked with students undertaking their level 1 and level 2 tests in English, GCSE level, mainly covering essay writing, formal report writing and reading tests.

Tutoring Approach:

I always give 100% when I am teaching and I pro-actively encourage questions and points of view to expand the students capacity to see their abilities at analysing their written and reading skills. Self assessment and continuous observation and reviews are important to evaluate a student's improvement and set new targets.
I have had students enrolled for exams including City and Guilds, Trinity and NVQ's. I have been observed twice a year and on each occasion they have been graded as good or very good.
