Information About Cara:

Personal Description:

I am a qualified science teacher and have taught biology, chemistry and physics to KS4, and chemistry and biology to KS5. I obtained a second-class honours degree in Biological and Chemical Sciences at the University of Limerick Ireland. I was nominated for an award for my outstanding teaching during University, having achieved A*s in my placements. I also received a letter of congratulations from the president of the University of Limerick congratulating my 1:1 in my university exams in 2016.
The subjects that I am qualified to teach is chemistry and biology, as I have always had a lifelong passion for this subject and I have studied environmental, analytical, organic and inorganic chemistry.
My thesis was pedagogy based (science of teaching) where I devised a module of how best to teach genetics to KS4 students.

Teaching Experience:

I teach biology, chemistry and physics to KS4, and chemistry to KS5. I have extensive experience in both teaching and tutoring GCSE and A level students in chemistry, both AS and A2. I cover the specifications for OCR, AQA and Edexcel exam boards and I provide all resources.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is to first evaluate what the student knows and take it from there. A hands-on approach to exams is vital and I believe in improving exam techniques through the completion of past papers whilst improving on subject knowledge and understanding. The practical applications of chemistry in industry, education and health are also covered as a wide breadth of understanding is important for the student to achieve to a high level.
