Personal Description:
Retired after lifetime of teaching in wide variety of schools and universities.
Teaching Experience:
I was Head of Sixth Form at an independent school and previously Head of English for 20 years. Previously, I was Senior Tutor at a Sixth Form College and have taught English in schools, colleges and universities, single sex and mixed. My work has concentrated on the 15-19 age group. I have recently moved to Berwick-upon-Tweed after a period in Scotland, tutoring in Edinburgh and in Fife. I have worked for Personal Tutors for over 10 years - 87503.
Tutoring Approach:
My students have been very successful, obtaining mostly A and B grades with fewer than five fail grades from well over 150 tutees. I am demanding of myself and also of my students. Each student is an individual so it is important to strike a balance between emphasis on the demands of examinations and the needs of each person. I teach now from personal enthusiasm far more than for monetary gain. I have a deep and abiding love of literature, especially the classics and poetry.
