Information About Christina:

Personal Description:

Currently, I am an employed Head of English in a local secondary school. I live in Preston with my husband, son and dog and thoroughly enjoy my role as a teacher.

I have a 2:1 BA Hons degree and a PGCE (post graduate certificate in education) in English and have done all of my teaching practice, since my degree, in English and English Literature.

My passion for education and English is something that enables me to have high expectations of every child, no matter what their target or ability.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a secondary school teacher since 2011 and in that time have risen standards in my department and school, but also with individuals who I have tutored. I was promoted to third in English after less than one year of teaching and after three, I was fortunate enough to be promoted to second in English and whole school literacy lead, then on to Head of Department more recently.

The diverse nature of these leadership roles enable me to see a broad spectrum of barriers to learning and progress in school, and overcome barriers to these issues in the classroom. I work with a variety of students with all abilities and needs and work within school on very small group and one to one intervention.

My exam teaching knowledge is extensive and although I work with AQA currently, I am able to adapt to other exam boards confidently. I have had vast experience of one to one tutoring and have improved grades by as many as 3 GCSE grades in a short time. The importance of students being prepared for exams is immeasurable, especially with the new, more rigourous GCSE exam system.

Tutoring Approach:

My expectations of children are high and from this, I believe the best can be achieved. I am a friendly and laid back person who instils confidence in all the students I teach; I thoroughly enjoy working with young people.

My methods of exam and English teaching allow a logical approach, especially for those students who find the lengthy English questions a challenge. For very able students that need a push, I am able to challenge and build resilience, whilst working on exam stamina. I will give practical and useful advice for exams and will happily work with younger students who need a boost in KS3.

My resources vary, depending on the needs of the individuals I teach, and I am very flexible in terms of commitment.

If you find yourself to be outside of my traveling radius, please enquire and I will do my best to accommodate you. I am available on some week nights and weekends and will do my best to fit in with your schedule. I also welcome any questions that you may have.
