Beverley - Darlington tutor
Information About Beverley:
Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and experienced teacher with a real passion for languages. This has led me to travel widely within Europe and amass a great deal of experience of other cultures. That and my belief in 'having a go' at communicating has led me to learn the basics of quite a few languages and given me plenty of material for (short!) 'instructional anecdotes', based on various scrapes and international misunderstandings! Languages should be fun and we should never be afraid to try them out! My other passion is music - a truly international language - and I enjoy my weekly instrumental lessons and playing with my local (amateur) orchestra.
Teaching Experience:
I hold degree level qualifications in English, French, Spanish and German and have over 40 years' experience of teaching languages, in both private and state schools and Sixth Form and Further Education colleges, where I have prepared students for a range of examinations and other qualifications. I have particular expertise in helping students bridge the gap between GCSE and AS level - and I love grammar! I have also worked as a private tutor and as a provider of courses and interpreting services for local businesses. My students have ranged in age from 2 to 80-plus. I teach Spanish and French to A level and can also offer German and Italian to intermediate level and basic introductory courses in Russian and Latin. I also offer conversational English for speakers of other languages.
Tutoring Approach:
Lessons usually take place in my home, but I am also willing to travel to you or to a venue of your choice. In the latter case I would need reasonable time and travel expenses. I can offer day-time or evening lessons, any day of the week. My hourly rate is £26, though I offer lessons of any length to suit you (charged pro rata). The same rate applies irrespective of the group size. Tutoring can be 1-to-1, small-group or, if you can provide a suitable venue, in a group of up to 15. I can offer intensive tuition or courses of various lengths (though exam candidates must make their own arrangements to sit papers). Alternatively, I can offer coaching and support for those already studying elsewhere. Each course is tailor-made to suit your exact requirements - and I aim to make each lesson fun!
Please note that, very sadly, contractual agreements mean that I am not permitted to offer private tuition to any student currently on roll at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College in Darlington.
