Sarah - Dartford tutor

Information About Sarah:

Personal Description:

For the last 9 years I have worked in a secondary school, initially as a Teaching Assistant working in the classroom with children with special educational needs, and subsequently as the Head of Sixth Form. Within this role I support A-Level students with a range of tasks on a daily basis, including mentoring, study skills and assistance with coursework in a range of subjects. I am the UCAS co-ordinator for the school, and have extensive experience in completing UCAS applications and personal statement writing. Alongside this I manage the Sixth Form admissions and therefore regularly work with Year 11 students. Due to my employment I hold a full enhanced CRB (now DBS) Check, and complete yearly training in Safeguarding and Child Protection.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously tutored students in Key Stage 3 English, Key Stage 4 English Literature and Language and Key Stage 4 and 5 Media Studies. I also have extensive experience in supporting Year 12/13 students with completing personal statements/CVs/employment and apprenticeship applications.

I run an activity residential week for year 7, 8 and 9 students every summer, teaching and supervising a variety of outdoor activities. From this I have gained experience in how different teaching methods can influence the learning of different students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that one to one support is essential for some students in order to allow them to achieve their potential. I feel that tutoring sessions should be student led, and focus on key areas where the student feels that additional support is necessary. Input from parents and teacher is also encouraged. For GCSE and A-Level students assistance with coursework is also available, alongside strategies for revision, time management, essay planning and study skills.

Tutoring can have a positive impact both on academic achievement and levels of confidence and self esteem within the classroom. If student's are encouraged to discuss problems with their work on a one to one basis, they often find it easier to express themselves in a classroom situation.

Through tutoring I hope to assist with improving academic progress by helping students to achieve their potential in the given subject, alongside increasing self-confidence and study strategies which can be transferred into the classroom and other subjects.
