Information About Sylvia:

Personal Description:

I completed my BSc in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Durham and my MSc in Clinical Embryology from the University of Oxford. I am currently working as a scientist within the University of Oxford researching the role of the placenta as a causative factor of complications of pregnancy.

Teaching Experience:

I have held regular tutorials and taught/supervised laboratory projects with medical students from the University of Oxford. I have also taught English to Spanish speaking children both in formal lessons and as an Au Pair. I have also helped teach children Maths at Kumon, an after school Maths class.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the key to a student understanding a topic is to ensure they have solid foundations in their knowledge. I therefore aim to ensure that my students are comfortable with core concepts before moving onto more complex matters. I am extremely sensitive in my approach to teaching as I believe that students excel the most when they feel they are in a safe environment in which they can ask any questions/ask for concepts to be reexplained - I am a firm believer of the fact that no question is a silly one!
