Information About Selena:

Personal Description:

I am currently a 27 year old Medical Student with Biomedical Science Masters. I am passionate about science and am keen to pass on my knowledge of sciences to students of all ages in order for them to excel. I earned A's in all my sciences and maths at GCSE, and further qualifications at A Level. I have most recently enjoyed finishing and excelling in a Master's degree (earning a Pass with Merit) specialising in Blood Sciences and Immunology.

I am currently a postgraduate Medical student at St George's University, with hopes to specialise in Haematology.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent the last 7 years tutoring students from primary school to A Level (year 13) level, where all students have achieved and exceeded their predicted grades. This large range in ages of students has allowed me to understand the importance of adapting the way of teaching to each individual student.

As well as academic teaching, I have spent a number of years as a sports coach in Gymnastics, teaching well beyond the ages of 4-16, and therefore broadening my understanding of different learning styles.

Tutoring Approach:

It is important to vary the language you use depending on the level and age of the student you are working with. It is also very important not to discourage the student, as I feel this does not motivate them. It's important to make them feel good about what they're doing and this will encourage them to do well. I am a firm believer of 'confidence is key', and I thrive in making sure my students feel confident and proud in the work they do, which results, often, in the outstanding results they achieve.
