Mohsin - Hampstead tutor
Information About Mohsin:
Personal Description:
I qualified with a BSc(Hons) in Neuroscience and MBBS degree from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. I graduated with triple distinctions (top 10% of medical school cohort), St. Bartholomew's Hospital Weitzman Memorial Prize in Cardiology, Strauss Prize in Psychological Medicine, Peter Enzor/Sir John Zochonis Scholarship (neuroscience), EJ Ball Scholarship (neuroscience) and Rod Flower Scholarship (neurogastroenterology). I was shortlisted (top 3 nationally) as Medical Student of the Year 2019 by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
I was appointed a Clinical Research Fellow at the Wingate Institute of Neurogastroenterology, Barts before completing basic medical training at the Royal Free Hospital, London. I was awarded an NIHR-funded Academic Clinical Fellowship (starting August 2022) with dual run-through training in gastroenterology and general medicine.
I have a deep interest in medical education and medical research. I have published over 10 book chapters and scientific articles to-date, in fields that also relate to medical research and pedagogy. My research has featured on the front cover of international medical journals (Journal of Anatomy - April 2020 edition, Butt et al). My first-author research published in the British Journal of Psychiatry Bulletin was selected as Article of The Month June 2019. I have presented my research at national and international conferences.
Teaching Experience:
I have over 1500 hours of teaching experience which spans over 7 years. Over that time I have taught over 150 medical students, many of whom have gone onto achieve merits and distinctions in their final MBBS exams. I have also supported students who have not passed modules and are at risk of not progressing into the next year of medical school.
I have a particular interest in communication and clinical skills. Whilst at medical school I was Treasurer of the Clinical Learning and Associated Skills Society (C.L.A.S.S), which helps prepare students for their OSCE exams. I also delivered seminars in general medicine (incl. cardiology, gastroenterology, respiratory medicine and neurology) to students as part of the Medical Education Support Society.
I was appointed Teaching Representative at the Royal Free Hospital in 2020. In this capacity I was responsible for co-ordinating undergraduate teaching for UCL medical students.
I also offer UCAS preparation for prospective medical students. I sat on the admissions panel at Barts and The London for three years and can offer one-to-one interview preparation sessions / personal statement assistance to students who plan to study medicine or dentistry at university. I am regularly invited by Ilford County High School to help students prepare for multiple mini interviews (MMIs) and traditional panel interviews.
Tutoring Approach:
I am grateful to have graduated from medical school with several distinctions and am well-versed in a variety of evidence-based revision techniques to help students revise efficiently. A lot of my work draws on my personal experience whilst at medical school. I present students with the most relevant, exam-focussed information in a digestible format before approaching clinical scenarios and MCQs/SAQs/essays.
I am very passionate about the work I do and have always encouraged my mentees to strive to reach their best in whatever field they wish to pursue. I look forward to working with you to ensure we maximise your potential.
