Stephen - Lytham St. Annes tutor

Information About Stephen:

Personal Description:

I am 55 years old, married with five grown up sons and eight grandchildren. I came to teaching rather late in life, having worked in personnel for many years. My wife is a teacher. I am passionately interested in astronomy, history and the local landscape

Teaching Experience:

After completing my initial teacher training in 1999, I worked as a science teacher and form tutor for a year at St Aiden's Technology College in Preesall, Lancashire.

I moved from there to take up a post at the Red Rose School in St Annes. This is a small, independent school for children with Special Needs (including dyslexia, Asperger's and ADHD). I taught literacy and numeracy in the mornings to my class of 10 pupils and then science to the rest of the school in the afternoons. I was also the school's AQA Co-ordinator and Examinations Officer.

Currently i am a supply teacher in and around Blackpool, the Fylde and Wyre.

Tutoring Approach:

I am convinced that a pupil centred approach to tutoring is essential. This means adapting my style of teaching to the student's learning style, which I can determine using various tests. I use strategies that are best suited to the student's needs, thereby making learning a relaxed and fun experience.
