Rebecca Jane - Canterbury tutor

Information About Rebecca Jane:

Personal Description:

Hello,

I am Rebecca (however all my friends call me Lindsay)! I am a PhD student studying Chemistry at the University of Kent, originally from Ireland. I like to think I am very approachable and have a method of explaining complicated information quite easily, I love tutoring as it not only allows me to help others it also keeps me on top of subjects I may have forgotten by now.

I am willing to meet in Canterbury centre, the University of Kent or at my own home, as I unfortunately don't drive!

Drop me a line if you're interested (I do half price initial conciliation) :)

Teaching Experience:

Up until last July I had two A level Chemistry and Biology students, who would travel to my home for tuition. I managed to increase there grads from a D level to a B with potential to obtain an A if the appropriate time and work was put in. Since I began my PhD last year, I currently supervise three masters physics students aiding them in their research and prompting them to come up with new ideas to make their research stand out. I also run applied Math workshops for second year Forensic Science students, teach first year and second year ballistics modules, run workshops on various analytical equipment for the third year science and chemistry students, and I also aid in the management of first year Forensic Science incident management which has improved organisational and time keeping skills of my own as a result.

Tutoring Approach:

I loved learning as a child, HOWEVER, I found the way information was taught to us very repetitive and difficult to engage in. I still have the same outlook now, I believe that learning should be fun and enjoyable, not seen as a chore in the slightest. My aim is to my studying fun and interesting, not just memorising a book to ultimately pass an exam, this will not be useful in later years. There is no such thing as a stupid question if you don't know the answer, and you should be comfortable to ask the person teaching you. However, I have little tolerance for people not putting in an effort. It is a waste of mine and your time, and especially the person paying for the tuitions. I put a lot of time and effort into my students including constant email access throughout the week for help with study.

I hope my approach appeals to you :)
