Information About Alan:

Personal Description:

Hi there,

I'm Alan, I'm an Engineering Manager on the railways. I have an Engineering Degree from the University of Glasgow, an MBA from the Open University, and a BTEC in Training Delivery.

Apart from work, I spend a lot of time cycling, and running - or spending time with my young family. I have a passion for learning about anything.

If you are making a request please make it for 1 session so we can establish I'm suitable, then we can arrange further thereafter. Thanks.

Teaching Experience:

I've been tutoring for 10 years now, and I am trained as a trainer through work, so I've taught both adults and students. I used to run a training team as part of my last job, and understand a lot about different teaching and learning styles. In my current role I am heavily involved in training in my current role, preparing 200 engineers on how to carry out their roles.

Since tutoring I've mostly taught 16 and upwards, physics and maths, and occasionally the odd other question! I am happy to teach anyone at any level.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to make the teaching as simple as possible, and let the student work it out themselves with me providing guidance where need be. Physics, and maths in particular, can be daunting - many people just want to get a good grade and move on, which I understand completely, I'm not going to make you love the subjects but help you get to where you want to be.

I'm also happy to assist with further learning, and understanding behind why something is important to learn, and provide a real world context.
