Personal Description:
I am a free lance tutor.
I specialise in modern languages (French, Spanish and English as a foreign language), which I teach online to all age groups.
The modern languages tuition is for business, pleasure, and exam purposes.
I also have tutoring sessions in my house in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, for those who live in the area.
I focus on Maths and English after school hours, from 4pm to 7pm., with French and Spanish as required.
On Saturdays, I tutor from 8am to 1pm.
I specialise in boosting grades at both GCSE and A level Spanish and French.
I also teach English as a foreign language. I have experience of teaching the IELTS exam. Accommodation can be provided for students who would like to experience the "immersion" approach to language learning.
Teaching Experience:
I have taught English as a foreign language in France and in the UK.
I have been a classroom teacher of French and Spanish for over twenty years. I have taught across the age and ability range all the way up to "A" level. I was Head of Modern Foreign Languages in one state secondary school for 5 years as well as being Head of Spanish in another.
I ran, in the 1990's, the French language franchise "Le Club Francais" for primary school French.
I have been the owner of a well known tutoring Franchise, which I successfully ran for 4 years. Maths and English was the primary focus.
I am qualified as a one on one maths tutor in secondary state schools. I have been seen by an OFSTED inspector in this role. The school's maths department was deemed to be "outstanding" in the subsequent report.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is that it should be fun, rigorous and focussed. Fun - yes. I like to think that I have got a good sense of humour and learning is best done in a relaxed yet purposeful atmosphere. Rigorous - yes. I know what needs to be done and I ensure that we cover the ground necessary, Focussed - yes. Whilst one on one tutoring can be a little intense at times, I maintain a focussed environment so that the tutee is fully engaged in a way appropriate to his or her particular skill sets and learning styles. What I particularly relish, whilst tutoring, are those "aha" moments...when the penny really does drop. I use a variety of tutoring techniques, including the modern technologies. To conclude - building a "rapport" is an essential part of good tutoring. This, I like to think, is my forte.
