Personal Description:
I am a qualified and experienced teacher of mathematics and physics at GCSE and A level. I am registered with the DfE and possess Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Over the past two years I have conducted hundreds of Intervention Tutorials in local schools particularly in mathematics. In my private tutoring much of my work involves helping students to get the grades they need to pursue their chosen A level studies or to get to the university of their choice. My results in these respects have been first rate. I conduct home visits for students based in Bournemouth and Poole and online tuition for those based further afield.
Teaching Experience:
Over ten years teaching experience in schools, colleges and private one to one tuition. Throughout this time I have taught maths and physics mostly at GCSE and AS/A2 level. My experience covers AQA, OCR and Edexcel exam boards. It includes mathematics up to and including Further Maths (FP1/FP2,...)
Tutoring Approach:
Most of my tutees are looking for help in raising their grades especially for university entrance purposes and whilst I spend considerable time helping tutees work through past paper exam questions I always emphasise the need for a thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts.
Most of my tutees have a good idea where in the syllabus they have issues and these tend to be the starting point in a tutorial. Identifying gaps in their knowledge and understanding and then helping tutees to bridge these gaps is a key feature of my tutorials. I also place considerable emphasis on problem solving as this is ultimately what the exams are all about in mathematics and physics.
