Steve - Towcester tutor
Information About Steve:
Personal Description:
I am a friendly English male tutor, aged 60, retired from a career in IT, but with a life-long interest in the English language and its quirks. My interest in teaching languages developed from my own experience of learning Spanish, in particular practising with Spanish people and finding myself in turn explaining to them how English works ... !
Teaching Experience:
My experience of English teaching ranges from teaching young children with almost no English, to teaching adults with a very good level of English (but maybe not a good accent!) I also previously worked as an ESOL Adult Education tutor for Northampton Council.
My experience of teaching Spanish includes teaching friends and colleagues on a more ad-hoc basis, in addition to giving private tuition for small groups or individuals, usually beginners. My level of Spanish is sufficient to enable me to teach beginners, and my experience of teaching English together with the insights gained from my own Spanish classes together with my enthusiasm for the language enable me to teach in an interesting and effective way.
Tutoring Approach:
The initial level of skill and the target knowledge will vary for each person and it is vital to understand this as the first stage. Teaching needs to then be tailored to provide a gradual progression towards the targets. Classes must provide a variety of challenging elements, mixed always with a bit of fun or something "offbeat". What drives me is the enthusiasm to convey and explain my own fascination with language, whether English or Spanish.

- Spanish AS Level (grade A)
