Personal Description:
I'm a student and working musician, mainly playing guitar and bass guitar. I travel a lot to play, and have played as far afield as Dundee and London. I gig regularly and have a lot of live experience, as well as experience as a producer and working in stage sound, so I have a pretty broad background to draw upon when it comes to teaching.
I play (and teach) many styles, from urban/hip-hop, funk, ska/reggae, blues, jazz, rock and folk/world music.
Teaching Experience:
I've taught guitar and bass before to a number of students at varying levels of experience, from absolute beginners to advanced players and people working on exams for school and college.
I've also got a pretty extensive collection of teaching materials, and write my own to supplement these.
Tutoring Approach:
I advocate a theory-centred approach to teaching. I like to emphasise the non-technical aspects of musicianship, like playing by ear and improvisation, at least as much as technique, as the latter can be developed by rote practice whereas the former develops best through interaction and tuition.
