Personal Description:

I am 60 years old and recently retired. I am married and live in North Lincolnshire. I enjoy travelling, visits to the threatre and days out. I am a keen armchair sports fan and like watching most sports. I am a keen Bridge player and enjoy both playing and helping to organise the game. Currently I am Chairman of our County Association. I have also been President of our local Club in previous years. I like to keep my brain active by solving crossword puzzles. I enjoy meeting people and helping them.

Teaching Experience:

I obtained my Maths degree in 1975 and my PGCE IN 1976. I started teaching in September 1976 and taught in the same large Comprehensive school until late in 2004. I did supply teaching in many local Secondary schools until I took early retirement in 2008. I have been a tutor for nearly two years. During my career I taught both GCSE and A-level Maths for many years. I retired from main school teaching because of ill health but I still have a great enjoyment of teaching Maths and helping tutees with their various problems with the subject.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is ,generally, a traditional one. I try to identify the problems that exist and talk through the topic and then ask the tutee to practice the work until they feel comfortable with it. I use traditional methods to solve problems always setting out the work, and solutions, properly and using, what I think are, the best ways to answer a problem. Also, confidence is a key to being able to cope with Maths and I try to give this to my tutees by constant encouragement. Generally, I regard myself as an "old fashioned" type of tutor but am , by no means, ashamed of it.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science from Teesside Polytechnic in 1975. PGCE from High Melton College of Education Doncaster in 1976
