Sarah Jane - Hayling Island tutor

Information About Sarah Jane:

Personal Description:

I am 22 years old and have recently moved to Hayling Island. I have been teaching piano for over 6 years and am now running Sarah's Music School from my home on Hayling Island.
I started learning piano at the age of 4. I worked my way through the grades, achieving grade 1 associated board at the age of 7. I passed grade 8 trinityguildhall with merit in 2006 just after which I started to teach.

I started singing in 2002 and was accepted into Farnham Youth Choir in 2003. As part of the choir, I sung at the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall at Christmases under the direction of John Rutter, as well as taking part in several competitions in which we won several prizes. Some of these included 52 nd European Youth Choral Festival, Neerpelt, Belgium - 1st prize cum laude, 2005 BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year - Finalist, 2005 Montreux Choral Festival (Switzerland) - 1st prize (Audience) and 2006 4th World Choir Games, Xiamen, China - 2 silver medals and 2 gold diplomas. I was also among a few of the choir to be selected to sing at St George's Chapel, Windsor. I left Farnham Youth Choir in 2006 to take my GCSEs including music in which I achieved an A*, and in my last year at school I was selected to be Music Prefect to the Junior School. During this time, I helped to run all the extra curricular music clubs including choir, orchestra, band, during which I also participated in Senior Choir, Chamber Choir, Senior Orchestra and Senior Jazz Band. I also organised the first ever annual Junior Music Competition which still runs to this day with the Cup for first prize. At the end of the year I also helped to organise the Summer Concert and direct the Junior School's production of Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. After this I went on to sixth form college to take Music AS & A Level, where I took part in Choir, Orchestra, Big Band and the esteemed Farnborough Sixth Form Chamber Choir. I achieved Music GCSE, AS & A Level.

I have always had a passion for music and am a patient, reliable and friendly teacher. I welcome students of all ages and all abilities.

I've always had a passion for maths and I've always had an ability for helping others. I believe that if someone struggles with a subject, particularly maths, the best thing to do is to find out why and come up with a solution. Sometimes the teacher does not explain something properly, and with maths, if you do not understand then you will not be able to solve the problem. Other times, it may be that you don't get on with a certain method, in which case a different method is the answer.

I will always take the time to explain, no matter how many times or different ways I need to do this.

I will always tailor tutoring sessions to the tutee's needs. Maths can be fun, easy, different and exciting if only it is taught in the right way to the right person.

Whether you or your child have fallen behind in maths or want to get ahead, perhaps you wish to swot up on some maths to help your children with homework or perhaps you require some extra tutoring in the run up to an exam, I am the right tutor for you :)
