Fahed - Paddington tutor
Information About Fahed:
Personal Description:
I am a qualified working GP with a passion for teaching. I have had a lot of experience in a number of medical specialities which needed a solid foundation in the sciences and mathematics. I am also an amateur philosopher with a deep interest in analytical philosophy, and am also a fluent Arabic speaker.
Teaching Experience:
I have delivered lectures at all levels, including undergraduate and postgraduate levels to consultants and fellow general practitioners. I have provided ample personal tutition with some very good feedback.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe in the importance of a systematic organised and disciplined approach when it comes to the study of any subject, but particularly with something of the theoretical depth and practical significance of medicine. I have organised all that I have learnt from medical school and postgraduate studies into organised simple chunks based on a simple though I feel unique system which allows for easy recall, particularly in the stressful times of examinations and, later on, patient care. I have organised almost all my undergraduate and postgraduate notes based on this system and feel it has served me well throughout my undergraduate and postgraduate career, having completed MBBS in 2005, DRCOG in 2008, and MRCGP in 2011.
However, I believe too, with Professor Neville Woolf, that learning ought to be the primary aim of all medical students, for the sake of practical implementation and not just passing a simple exam:
"It is a fact, albeit a regrettable one, that many students, perhaps the majority, are obsessively concerned with passing examinations, which become for them the raison d'etre rather than a by-product of medical education. Even at this pragmatic level, it should be understood that the process of learning transcends the acquisition, partial retention and more or less accurate reproduction of a large body of factual knowledge. Real learning should be based on understanding and the ability to use knowledge in disparate contexts; it is one of the few of life's pleasures which does not lose its savour with passing time, provided only that we do not lose our sense of wonder as the mysteries of nature are made clear, however slow and tantalisingly incomplete this process seems" - 'Pathology', p.4. (Neville Woolf)
In addition, I would assess the needs of the tutee and devise a tailored programme. I also laise with schools and colleges if there is a particular need.
My aim is to help the candidate not just succeed in his subject, but to enjoy it too, for only with enjoyment will the time and energy invested in the original learning be consolidated and benefited from at later times.
And with Mark Twain, I believe in the motto, "I have never let my schooling interfere with my education".
