Rebecca - Armagh tutor
Information About Rebecca:
Personal Description:
I am a 30 year old primary school teacher with a range of experience working with children and young people. In particular, I have worked with children who experience barriers to learning and I enjoy aiding them to experience success in education. I am a fun but hard-working and reliable individual with a passion for working with children.
Teaching Experience:
I have a degree in Speech and Language Therapy, and during university placements, often took on a teaching role working with children one to one or in small groups; assessing and delivering therapy in a child-centred approach.
Before embarking on teacher training, I worked as a teaching assistant in both primary and post-primary settings. I provided support to children with English as an additional language and with special educational needs in both settings. I was responsible for planning, setting targets and assessment of the children I worked with. I also supervised a Homework Club, providing assistance to post-primary children in various subjects including children with special education needs and those who are gifted and talented. During this 2 year period, I tutored a number of children in the evenings on a one to one basis ranging in age from Primary 2 to Primary 7, and I developed very positive relationships with the families I worked with.
On completion of my PGCE, I worked as a mainstream primary school teacher for 2 years. Following that, I took up my current position as a teacher in a speech and language unit where I have been working for the almost 3 years.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe using a child-centred approach is key to success. I consider what might interest and motivate the child in terms of resources and materials, and work at a pace appropriate for the child. It is important for the child to experience success but also to be appropriately challenged in order to reach their potential. I embrace a fun approach when working with children and would like to provide them with a positive learning experience.
