Personal Description:
Richard is a classically-trained guitarist with an Honours Degree in Music from Edinburgh Napier University. He studied under Simon Thacker during his degree and participated in masterclasses with Mark Ashford of Birmingham Conservitoire while also travelling to USA for lessons with world-renowned guitarist Ana Vidovic.
Richard's interest in music extends beyond performance. He has studied theory, history and composition in depth to further build on his music knowledge. This insight allows Richard to provide a solid base from which students can fully come to understand the music they are playing.
Teaching Experience:
As a guitar tutor for the Edinburgh Council, Richard has tutored hundreds of children. He has also privately tutored students of all ages and abilities. Richard thrives on adapting his tutoring techniques to the individual or group. His creativity not only applies to his musical talent, but also to his ability to create new teaching exercises to suit the student from his studio in Penicuik.
Tutoring Approach:
Teaching you how the fingers and body learns and then applying it to guitar to learn the music you want to play. I use various methods depending on the style you wish to play.
