Phil - Weymouth tutor
Information About Phil:
Personal Description:
I have been tutoring in Weymouth since 2018, having moved from Eastbourne where I was a private tutor for six years. Prior to that I worked for six years in West Yorkshire as a a self-employed independent education consultant, and also as a School Improvement Partner and Link Officer for Calderdale MBC. I have over thirty years teaching experience in primary, junior and middle schools, including seven years as as a deputy head and fifteen years as a headteacher. I have always loved teaching children and aim particularly to help them develop self-esteem and confidence.
My current availability is as follows:
Mondays 6.30 onwards
Wednesdays - between 3.30 pm and 5 pm, after 6.45 pm
These sessions tend to fill up very quickly so please contact me asap if you are interested.
Teaching Experience:
I have a wide background experience in teaching and education, having taught in five different schools in five different English education authorities, before becoming a School Link Officer / School Improvement Partner. I have held posts in large and small schools, with management experience in each, and I have taught children in all age-groups of primary, junior and 8-12 middle schools. I have, at one time or another, held particular responsibility for Curriculum Development, Maths, English, Science, Technology, ICT, PE, Art, French and Special Needs. I was Deputy Headteacher at two widely differing schools before becoming Headteacher of a small primary school. I maintained a teaching commitment of two to three days per week throughout my time as Headteacher of the school.
Tutoring Approach:
I base my approach to tutoring on an understanding of the individual needs of each student. I firmly believe that all children are capable of success. It is the tutor's role to find the most effective way of teaching for each individual child and to have an understanding of each child's preferred learning style. I always begin with an initial diagnosis based on discussion with the parents and an analysis of the student's current ability. Further sessions will concentrate on developing the skills of the student in line with a planned programme of work and targets, which has been agreed with the parents and student. I have a relaxed and friendly style with students but also have high expectations of their progress.
