Information About Emma:

Personal Description:

I am an experienced Chemistry teacher and Tutor currently working in an outstanding Sixth Form Grammar School. I am able to offer tuition for Chemistry A Level and GCSE. I graduated from UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology) with a Chemistry BSc (Hons) and completed a Science PGCE at Edgehill University in 2005. I have taught Chemistry to a very high standard throughout my career, working in both boys and girls single sex Sixth Form Grammar schools within the North West.

I am a friendly, confident and approachable person. I have up to date knowledge of the current specifications for AQA and understand the demands that the new linear courses have on the students. I am able to work flexible hours within school holidays and during term time after school or weekends to fit in with your requirements. I can provide online tuition via Zoom and will provide resources to ensure that the tutoring needs are fulfilled. My lessons are structured to optimise time to the benefit of the student.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught AQA A level and GCSE Chemistry in outstanding secondary schools since 2005. As a result I have gained vast experience working with students striving to achieve the highest grades.
I am confident and knowledgeable of the structure and style of examination questions and the examination techniques that students need to build upon for their success.
There is much more emphasis and demand on assessment of practical skills and working in a school which has passed the inspection by AQA for the practical endorsement as well as attending an AQA course that focused on the required practicals and their assessment provides me with up to date knowledge that only a teacher can have.
I have been tutoring students for the last 9 years and have been able to support many students to improve confidence and achieve their target grade allowing them to gain their place at university. I would be happy to provide any references if required from the parents of these students.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed, friendly approach to tutoring and use a variety of resources to help aid memory of difficult concepts. I use a lot of exam questions to practice exam technique and build confidence. I keep a track of weekly progress and set targets for students to consolidate and build upon work covered in the session. It is important that they take ownership of their own learning throughout the process.
I enjoy adapting my teaching style to meet individual student needs and I am always willing to make new resources and revision aids to support my students.
