Information About Donna:

Personal Description:

I am a qualified SEN teacher with 13 years teaching experience. I have a 18 year old step-daughter with AD/HD who is also on the Autistic spectrum. I also have a 10 year old daughter and a 6 year old daughter. I have been married for 12 years but with my husband for 19 years.

I am looking to offer my services as a private home tutor to help struggling students with or without additional needs.

I have taken a bit of a break from tutoring in the past 2 years due to additional commitments at my day job. I am now the Curriculum Lead in the Primary unit of the Special Needs school I teach in.

I am prepared to come to your child's home but also willing to tutor from my own home if required earlier than 6pm.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 13 years after working as a Special Needs Assistant and then completing my Primary PGCE at Kingston University.

I have spent my 13 years teaching in Special Needs schools working with students with Moderate Learning Difficulties, Autism, AD/HD, Downs Syndrome, Aspergers, Cerebral Palsy, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties, speech delay and also visual and hearing impairments, as well as those with difficult home lives.

I have training in a successful Phonics scheme called Read, Write, Inc. Whereby students learn to read through intense synthetic phonics teaching which involves constant repetition and reinforcement enabling the student to learn effectively and quickly, gaining confidence in their ability. This would need some input from parents in order to be as successful as possible.

I absolutely love my job and now feel that it is time to offer my expertise, either in the evening or at weekends, to other children who find learning difficult and require a little extra help and support. I also feel that by my helping your son/daughter it will help you to cope with their needs in other areas without you having to worry about them struggling at school.

Tutoring Approach:

Wherever possible I would like to follow the schemes your child uses at their current school in order to not confuse them any further, but if this is not possible I will try to adapt my teaching style to accommodate ways in which they learn best. When it comes to teaching, students need to experience a variety of methods in order to find one that suits them. If this has not been established when I begin working with them it is something that I would work on quickly in order for the student to be able to start learning quickly and effectively.
