Information About Stephen:

Personal Description:

Stephen has had an interest in making music since his earliest years. At school, music was always a priority subject. Piano lessons commemced at the age of 8 and Classical Organ at the age of 11. On leaving school after A levels (including Music) he was immediately accepted by the famous music company Boosey & Hawkes at their North London headquarters. There, Stephen was assistant to the Musical Director of the Hammond Organ Company. Two years later, he was appointed to head demonstrator and the first ever "in-house" teacher at the Cavendish Organ Centre in London's West End. During this time he continued to study Classical Organ at the Royal College of Organists (whilst, unknown to his RCO tutors, having theatre organ lessons)
Stephen moved North in 1974 to open his own organ and piano showroom and music teaching studios in Blackpool.
Deciding to concentrate on teaching since 1995 Stephen is now a busy and sought-after teacher. Also he is Keyboard Tutor (part-time) for a local music academy, an examiner for the ICMA Examination Board and a renowned concert organist around the United Kingdom at various theatre and classical organ venues including Blackpool Opera House, Stockport Town Hall and Liverpool Cathedral
His tuition covers most areas of the Fylde.

Teaching Experience:

Stephen has been teaching all his working life and whilst living and working in London was able to count many celebrities and minor royals as his pupils.
He is enthusiastic about his subjects and his happy to share a wealth of musical knowledge with his pupils.

Children and Adults........Beginners, Intermediates, Advanced ....... Piano, Organ (Classical and "Home Electronic"), Keyboard and Music Theory........whether for leisure/casual or for examination preparation.

Many of Stephen's adult pupils are enjoying learning to play the music of THEIR decades. Students currently include Home Organists and pianists and keyboard players (Yamaha Tyros and PSR series - also Technics KN series) and some resident church organists/pianists wishing to improve their repetoire for their musical contributions to the church

Examination preparation for ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) and ICMA (Independent Contemporary Music Awards)
From Grade 1 to Grade 8 in all Practical Subjects. Music Theory to Grade 5 and beyond.

Classical music, popular music, jazz styles, show, film and stage music, light music.......whatever your tastes, whatever YOU want to play, even for exams! Stephen is happy to help.
NEW ORGAN OR KEYBOARD ? - Stephen's in-depth knowledge as both a teacher and performer can help you find out about YOUR new instrument.

Many of Stephen's students have gone on to Music Colleges, including the Royal Northern College of Music, Blackburn College and Leeds College of Music.

HOME VISITS can be arranged to most areas of the Fylde Coast and inland...... Blackpool, Cleveleys, Fleetwood, St. Annes, Lytham, Poulton, Kirkham, Over Wyre. Lessons from around 9.30am until last lesson at 7.00pm.
Half-hour lessons by negotiation.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Saturday - mornings only until 1pm
Certain locations may require an hourly fee to be negotiated. All fees subject to annual review.

Tutoring Approach:

Making music is one of life's skills and whether it is taken up at an early age or later in life it can bring great joy and pleasure to the music maker and to others. It is true that practice is necessary to achieve good results, for examinations and for leisure playing, but Stephen is encouraging to introduce music that YOU enjoy playing. Classical music and popular/light music - even "Lady Gaga" - is being actively played by Stephen's current students.
