Eliza - Lancaster tutor
Information About Eliza:
Personal Description:
My life and experience as a musician is very diverse. Originally I studied classical music to grade 8 in Piano, Singing, violin and music theory and two music A'levels. At 15 I achieved the highest marks in my county for grade 8 violin.
I then studied folk music and Jazz and went on to obtain BA Hons Jazz, majoring in voice and piano.
I studied extensive harmony and theory at university.
In my teens I toured parts of the world with an orchestra. Later I played in string quartets, orchestras, choirs and started to branch out into improvised music, playing in a jazz band and folk-rock band. Through the piano and voice, jazz became my passion and has remained so. I have played violin in Hotclub-swing bands, sang and played piano in big hotels in London and now play with a french-afro-cuban funk band, as well as currently forming my own jazz quartet.
Teaching Experience:
My teaching experience is equally as diverse. I have taught for three different music services in the UK, teaching pupils from primary to sixth-form age violin, piano, voice and music theory.
I have taught in many different situations, from large ensembles/theory classes to one-to-one/or small groups of pupils. My pupils have come from all different cultural backgrounds, and abilities, from physical difficulties including blindness, and impoverished homes. I have also worked with adults with severe challenging behavioral problems.
I have also put many pupils through ABRSM exams with excellent results.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach is tailored to individuals needs and requirements. However, all pupils respond to fun, and absorb more information in a light atmosphere in my experience. I also feel that no circumstance should be a barrier to music, be it financial or a physical/mental restriction.
I can offer support along side GCSE music, entry to music theory exams, popular music exam entries, jazz and classical exam entry. I have also tutored pupils vocally for song and dance festivals.
