Personal Description:

I have over ten years' experience of teaching pupils from primary school to postgraduate level. I have a PhD in History at the University of Leicester, and hold an MA in History from the University of Warwick and a BA in History from the University of Leicester. I have also held two Heritage Lottery Fund History research posts and a postdoctoral fellowship at the School of Advanced Study, University of London. My main strengths are in British and American history from 1400 to present, however I am versatile and able to teach other topics outside these thematic areas.

I am a friendly, enthusiastic and patient person that is able to encourage and teach in a passionate and worthwhile manner. I have a wide-ranging experience of teaching and mentoring students (see below)

Teaching Experience:

I have been a Tutor in History at the University of Leicester and Loughborough University since 2013 and 2015 respectively, and was recently appointed as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Derby. I have over ten years' experience of teaching secondary-school students as a teacher, tutor for the 'Brilliant Club', and a personal tutor (from year 7 to University level). I have also done outreach work at secondary schools, voluntary work at primary and secondary schools (five schools in total), and mentored students one-on-one and in groups.

I have also published several pieces of original research in academic journals.

Tutoring Approach:

Having worked in education from primary school to university level, I have the ability to tutor in a wide variety of formats depending upon the tutee's specific needs. For example, sometimes I take students through subject-focused content and sometimes I concentrate on exam technique with pupils. Please feel free to mention your needs and I will tailor the tuition around this.
