Harriet - Cambridge tutor

Information About Harriet:

Personal Description:

I am a fourth year Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies student from Cambridge University (+ Spanish in first two and have just returned from a year teaching music throughout the middle east. I am particularly comfortable tutoring languages and music and have plenty of experience of this. I am based in Cambridge and am happy to come to you rather than causing you the extra hassle of meeting somewhere else.

Teaching Experience:

English teacher - Oct 2009-Nov 2010, UNWRA School, Balata Refugee Camp, Nablus
Music teacher - oboe, music theory and singing - Oct 2009 - Oct 2010, Al Kamandjati Music School, Ramallah
Music teacher - oboe, music theory and singing - Sept 2005-Dec 2006, private pupils, Bath
French and Spanish tutor - Sept 2005-Dec 2006, private pupils, Bath
English teacher - January - June 2007, Calca & Coya Community Schools, Peru

Tutoring Approach:

I have a flexible approach which I would vary with each pupil depending on their particular needs, but with languages I tend to record the lessons so that the pupil can listen and digest the information at home after the lesson. Unfortunately with almost all GCSE and A level subjects, a lot of the skill is in jumping through certain hoops and writing what the examiner wants to see and so I cater to that, as I appreciate the importance of getting the grades at school. However, I do not solely focus on this and genuinely believe in the necessity of a thorough understanding in order for it to 'stick'.
