Information About Colin:

Personal Description:

I graduated as a mature student with The Open University and hold a BSc (Hons) in Life Sciences in 2008, so I have an understanding of the pressures of modern learning requirements.

I am easy-going and have an interest in teaching basic skills and maths to primary ages as well as science up to GCSE level.

I am a young 60 with a 6 year old daughter who benefits from my teaching and encouragement. It is through her that I have gained a good understanding of primary years education.

I continue to further my own education through the Open University and I am presently seeking a PhD opportunity.

Teaching Experience:

I assist and support my own daughter's learning as well as gaining further experience by assisting in the classroom at a local primary school. I have extensive experience in industry using organisational and team management skills.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to direct the learning process in an interesting way. For primary levels, it is important to maintain interest though the use of a wide range of learning resources and also to make learning fun.

I believe in building confidence by encouragement. I structure lessons to suit individual needs, setting achievable targets and carefully directing the route to reach whatever level or qualification that is required.

I always begin with an assessment of the pupil's needs. I maintain regular discussion with parents and pupil on the direction and needs of the learning route.

The key factors in my approach to teaching are positive encouragement and a kind understanding of any difficulties.
