Christina - Colchester tutor
Information About Christina:
Personal Description:
I am a qualified teacher of English with a master's degree in teaching english as a foreign language obtained by the University of Essex, UK. Greek is my mother tongue; therefore, I would be really happy to teach either of these languages.
I am a sociable, hard-working, and enthusiastic person, and teaching seems to suit me a lot as it is not limited to transmission of knowledge, but also combines qualifications and a willing character. Moreover, I fancy teaching English for fun as well as for exams.
Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) for two successive summers to Italian students as part of a summer school exhange at the University of Essex, UK. I also taught English at the International Academy of the same University as part of a three-month teaching practice compulsory module as well as an EFL teacher for the Preparatory English Programme. Before coming to the UK, I delivered one-to-one lessons of English as a foreign language to Greek primary and secondary school students.
My experience as an EFL teacher, as a teacher of Greek as a foreign language, and as a teaching assistant of undergraduate linguistics students at Essex University, has provided me with a lot of expertise on the field of language education and pedagogy, and academic English.
Tutoring Approach:
Tutoring entails a collaborative and friendly atmosphere between the instructor and the students: the teacher should not be regarded as the authoritative figure in the classroom, because that would probably demotivate most of the students.
Furthermore, a similar feeling should exist among students themselves as well. This can be achieved via pair- and/or group-work which makes students feel more relaxed.
Last but not least, a lesson should be based on the development of all skills, with presentation of language points followed by immediate practice. In any case, revision for the purposes of consolidation of knowledge is crucial.
